Welcome officially to Kenya !
You will be met upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport by our representative once you finalize with immigration. Please look for the paging board that he will be holding.
Thereafter, you will be transferred to your city Hotel for check in.
Kenya’s capital city has risen in a single century from a brackish uninhabited swampland to a thriving modern capital.
Modern Nairobi is still the safari capital of the Africa, but the modern world has quickly caught up with the city. A frontier town no more, Nairobi is one of Africa’s largest, and most interesting cities.
Nairobi is a city that never seems to sleep. The entire town has a boundless energy, and is thriving place where all of human life can be found. This is a place of great contrasts where race, tribe and origin all become facets of a unique Nairobi character. The city has not lost its sense of the past, with an excellent museum and the historical home of Karen Blixen, author of Out of Africa open to visitors. This is not a modern capital separated from the great wilderness that surrounds it. Just outside the city is Nairobi National Park, 113 sq. kms of plains, cliffs and forest. The park is home to large herds of zebra, Wildebeest, Buffalo, Giraffe and more. Rhino, Cheetah, and a large number of Lions are all found here, living wild within 20 minutes of the centre of town.
Rest of the day is spent at leisure with overnight at the town hotel in Nairobi.
Dinner will be payable direct.
After breakfast, begin your safari by driving North of the county past the pineapple and coffee plantations and the across the equator to Ol Pejeta Conservancy.
Make a brief stop at the Equator for a short demonstration by the locals on the notion that the water behaves differently in the northern and southern hemispheres.
Continue with your journey and enjoy a short game viewing enroute to Sweetwaters Serena Camp arriving in time for lunch.
Ol Pejeta is a private 90,000 acres Conservancy which is home to Kenya's largest population of Black Rhino, a large number of elephant, cheetah, lion, leopard and plains game including the rare Northern species such as Grevy’s Zebra, Jacksons Hartebeest and Beisa Oryx. In addition, the Wildlife Educational Centre is interesting for both children and adults alike, and the Chimpanzee Sanctuary for orphaned chimps offers the opportunity to learn about the perils facing chimpanzees in the wild. This private wilderness boasts an astounding variety of wildlife, including the endangered black and white rhino, and a number of endangered species, most notably the rare Grevy's zebra and the Jackson's hartebeest.
Afternoon you will proceed for your first afternoon game drive in the conservancy.
Another day spend Olpejeta Conservancy.
During your afternoon game drive, you will have a chance to visit the Chimpanzee Sanctuary, the only sanctuary for chimpanzees in Kenya.
The chimpanzees’ natural home range spans from Senegal on the West African coast, through the central forested belt of Africa, to Uganda. They are not native to Kenya, but when a rescue centre in Burundi had to be closed due to the civil war outbreak in 1993 – Ol Pejeta opened its doors. The Sweetwater’s Chimpanzee Sanctuary was established with an agreement between the Ol Pejeta Conservancy, the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) and the Jane Goodall Institute. The aim – to provide lifelong refuge to orphaned and abused chimpanzees from West and Central Africa. Over the last decade, Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary has been compelled to keep accepting chimpanzees rescued from traumatic situations - bringing the total number of chimpanzees in the Sanctuary to 36. Many are confiscated from cramped and unnatural living conditions, and many arrive with horrific injuries sustained from abuse at the hands of humans. Here at Sweetwater’s, they get a chance to start over. This visit is offered at an extra cost as well.
Last early morning game drive in the conservancy.
After breakfast you will proceed to Samburu Game reserve arriving at your camp in time for lunch.
Samburu Game Reserve is within the land of the colorful Samburu people who are close cousins of the Masai. Scenically and faunally dramatic, for most of the year Samburu is sure under the unsympathetic equatorial sun. This arid wilderness is a place where the waters of the Ewaso N'giro attract a profusion of game. This beautiful area is known for its large herds of elephants and elusive leopards as well as northern endemic species including the gerenuk Somali Ostrich, Beisa Oryx and reticulated giraffe.
First afternoon game drive before you return in the evening at your camp for dinner and overnight.
Another day in Samburu Game Reserve.
Your driver with plan your days with you, which can be as active or as leisurely as you wish. You may decide to spend the whole day in the reserve with picnic lunches or enjoy a morning game drive and return to the camp for a leisurely lunch and time to relax before going out game viewing again in the cooler hours of the afternoon.
On this day you will too visit a Samburu village for cultural experience.
The Samburu people are some of the friendliest in Kenya. Originally a nomadic tribe, the Samburu today still embraces their nomadic culture. They live north of the equator in the geographically fascinating Samburu County of Northern Kenya and are closely related to the Maasai tribe who speak a similar language, derived from Maa.
The Samburu, just like the Maasai are a semi-nomadic people. Only the Samburu are still very traditional and have not parted with old customs as compared to the Maasai. Cattle, as well as goats, sheep and camels, play a vital role in the Samburu way of life and culture. The Samburu are highly dependent on their livestock for survival. Their diet comprises mostly of milk and occasionally blood from their cows.
The blood is accrued by slightly cutting the jugular of the cow, and draining the blood into a cup. The wound is then promptly sealed with hot ash. Meat is only served on special occasions. The Samburu people's diet is also supplemented with vegetables, roots and tubers that are made into a soup.
Evening return to your camp for dinner and overnight.
